Dear Little One:
By the end of this week, you will be as big as a lime. Last week, you were the size of a prune, which didn’t mean a whole lot to me. I don’t eat prunes. However, I am familiar with limes. And limes seem really large all of a sudden!
You led us on quite a ride these past few weeks, and I’m starting to feel like things are settling down a little bit. Somehow, we found out about you at only 4 weeks along, which is about as early as you can get. I felt sure you must be bigger than that, but a sonogram that next week told us you were only 5 1/2 weeks, no bigger than an appleseed. We couldn’t even see you on the screen, you were so little!
For being so tiny, you sure gave me a big appetite! I felt hungry all the time for the next few weeks, which turned to non-stop nausea through Week 7. Thankfully that only lasted another few days. While you may be growing inside, Mommy isn’t doing much growing yet. I haven’t gained a pound, though I’m sure that will change soon!
Last week, Week 10, we got to see you on the sonogram and hear your heartbeat. You are truly alive and growing! Your first pictures look like a gummy bear – your head is the biggest part of you so far (all those brains, no doubt!), and your arms and legs are still quite short. Daddy has taken to calling you Gummy Bear – your first nickname! And we have a due date: June 21, 2012, the first day of summer.
We’ve had fun telling your family that you’ll be joining us. All of your grandparents and great-grandparents are very excited, as are Uncle Alex and Uncle Nick. You are already so loved!
