Movin’ and shakin’

Oh Gummy Bear,

Your daddy is convinced you’re on your way to being an athlete, and based on our sonogram yesterday, he may be right! Then again, I may have just turned you into a life-long coffee drinker…

Our appointment was bright and early at 8am, so your daddy made us a coffee to share on the way to the doctor’s office. I’m pretty sure that’s why you decided to show us some of your acrobatics on the monitor! The tech got us all set up, and then there you were – waving your arms around and kicking your legs. It was incredible to see you moving so much on the screen when I still don’t feel a thing in my belly.

The tech measured you all over, and looked at your heart, brain, kidneys and bladder. She wanted to look at something a little bit closer and couldn’t quite get the right angle so she bounced my stomach with the wand to get you to move. You weren’t too impressed with that, and you rolled completely over and turned your back to us. It was so funny to see!

Right now you weigh about 8 ounces, and your head is about 15 centimeters around. You’re in the 45th and 50th percentile for head circumference and femur length, but you have a little Buddha belly – you’re in the 70th percentile for abdominal circumference! All good news though – you look healthy and happy and certainly active. We could see your heart expanding and contracting, and you turning your head from side to side and nodding up and down. We even saw you drinking and swallowing!

You’re right on target to arrive around June 21st, just as predicted. Your grandpa was so impressed with your pictures, and how much clearer they are than he and Grandma got 30 years ago before Mommy was born.

We peeked, but didn’t see anything on the screen to indicate whether you’re a boy or a girl, and the tech didn’t tell us, so it’s still a surprise! We can’t wait to meet you. This will be the last sonogram until 35 or 36 weeks so we have a while to wait.

We love you!

God love elastic pants

Dear Gummy Bear:

I wore elastic-waist maternity pants for the first time this past Monday. And every day since. You have grown so much that there is no denying you’re in my tummy, and my regular pants just aren’t comfortable anymore. Elastic, however, is a godsend. The ladies at work have started noticing that I’m pregnant with you, even people I didn’t tell, so it’s pretty obvious now, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

I’m told that you’re about the size of a large onion this week. At 17 weeks along, you have fingerprints and can hear the sound of my voice. I’m told that you will remember it, and know me by its sound when you arrive. I’ve gained a total of 5 pounds now, which is proof that you’re still growing and thriving. I haven’t felt you move yet, or at least I don’t think I have, but I’m told it’s hard to tell at first. It’s getting a little harder for me to get up off the couch, and to bend over at the waist, but still no real discomfort. I’ve been very lucky!

Next Wednesday morning we go see Dr. Kesler for our mid-term sonogram and anatomy exam to measure you and make sure everything is growing as it’s supposed to. This is also the time when we could find out of you’re a boy or a girl, but we still want to be surprised.

Your daddy and I finished baby registries at Target, Babies-R-Us and We have all the plans ready for your bedroom now too – it’s just a matter of getting started.

We love you so much!

15 weeks; 150lbs

Dear Little One,

For the first time in my life, I was worried that I was NOT gaining weight. Dr. Kesler, however, is not worried so I suppose I should just stay healthy and roll with it. As of today, you have helped me gain only 2lbs. It seems that the average for 15 weeks is 5lbs gained, so we’re a little less than average but you’re healthy so that’s what matters.

In just 3 weeks we get our BIG sonogram, and hopefully get to see you moving around on the screen. We’ll have to be sure to tell the tech to keep your gender a secret… we still want to be surprised.

I ordered some fun stuff for you the other night. We picked out a half-tent so that we can take you to the beach this summer. I’m sure you’ll love it there. We’ve started a registry at Babies-R-Us for some of the basic stuff we’ll need, and worked hard the other day to start cleaning out the room that will be yours. You’ll be here before we know it…

We love you,
